May 27, 2020—First, thank you for your support of GSCA. We have been inspired and
humbled by how the giant screen community has come together during what
is such a painful and difficult time for everyone. The GSCA virtual
meet-ups and the conversations they generate have been lively and
informative, and we are grateful for your participation.
Based on input gathered in our recent survey, conversations with
industry stakeholders, and the likelihood that large gatherings may not
be permitted yet in September, the GSCA Board has voted to cancel the
in-person conference this year, previously scheduled for September 21-24
in Chicago. We do not make this decision lightly, but the safety of our
members is our top priority. Instead, we are planning a virtual event
for fall 2020 (spring for our members in the Southern Hemisphere). Dates
and other details will be announced as they are confirmed.
GSCA staff has spent countless hours in the past two months researching
and participating in virtual events, and we are confident that GSCA can
host a meaningful, productive, engaging, and affordable event that will
benefit industry veterans, those new to their roles in the industry, and
even those who may not have been able to attend in-person GSCA events
in the past.
Associations exist to support and strengthen their communities, in both
good times and challenging times, and we are working diligently to do
everything we can to support you as the industry recovers from the
devastating financial effects of the pandemic. Our hope is that we can
meet in person again in 2021, but stay tuned for further details about
our 2020 virtual event.
If you would like to join the team helping to plan the event, please contact Tammy Seldon at tammy@giantscreencinema.com. There will be new challenges in producing a virtual event, and we welcome your help.
We hope you and your families are safe.
