In August 2022, GSCA conducted a follow-up to the State of the Giant Screen Industry survey. The previous versions were completed in August 2020 for presentation during the Virtual 2020 Conference, April 2021 for presentation during the Virtual Film Expo, and October 2021 for presentation during the GSCA Member Meeting in November 2021 (see those versions below). As with the previous versions, the key contact at current and recently lapsed GSCA member organizations from all sectors of the industry (theaters, production, distribution, and related businesses) received the survey. Results of this Q3 2022 update were compiled and presented by GSCA staff during the GSCA Member Meeting held on October 12, 2022, via Zoom. We hope to continue doing this survey once a year to gauge industry practices and trends, and to measure industry confidence. Click here to download a PDF of the survey results

A candid, data-driven update on the state of the GS industry, this
presentation identifies the hopeful signs as well as the challenges
facing all stakeholders in this industry’s recovery. We profile GSCA
members’ attitudes about business prospects for their own organization
and the industry overall. As the follow-up to the identically named
session at the GSCA Virtual Conference in September 2020, this new State of
the GS Industry session captures the results, shares the analysis,
and spots the key trends from a new survey of all GSCA member sectors. A
snapshot of GS theater re-openings and film release schedules is
provided too.

In August 2020, GSCA and Paul Fraser of Blaze Cineworks conducted a comprehensive survey of all our Association's major segments, looking at not only day-to-day issues but also future plans and industry-wide concerns. Different survey versions were sent to producers; distributors; and manufacturers, suppliers, consultants & other businesses. While the survey was customized for each industry segment, questions about the GS industry as a whole and about the GSCA were common to all surveys. GSCA Chair Alan Nursall and Paul Fraser presented the results during GSCA Virtual 2020 on September 22-24, 2020. Included below are PDFs of results from each industry segment, Paul’s PowerPoint presentation for GSCA Virtual 2020, as well as the recording of the presentations made by Alan and Paul.
